The Joint Legislative Commission on Municipal Incorporations, a Commission created by the North Carolina General Assembly, gave House Bill 2 - Corolla Incorporation an unfavorable recommendation this week. Commission members that attended the June 1 public hearing in Corolla discussed the large opposition in attendance at that hearing. In addition to this, they stated their decision was based on disunity among the Currituck Commissioners on the issue; discrepancies with data contained in the petition and the views of those in favor and opposed that spoke during this week’s meeting. The bill now goes to the House Finance Committee where it may not even be heard at all given the recommendation. The issue would then be over - for now.
